User page

Create a user page on Abstract Wikipedia and Wikifunctions indicating the language(s) you speak. Using Babel templates is recommended.

Translation tasks

Help make Abstract Wikipedia and Wikifunctions available in your language by:

• Translating policies and documentation.
• Reviewing existing lemmas and adding translations for function labels.
• Translating the 100 most used Wikidata-Properties
• Adding missing Wikidata labels when items appear as a Q-ID (for example, Q12345), a fallback language, or no label at all.
• Improving documentation.
• Creating or improving abstract articles related to your language, country, or culture.
• Adding or updating lexemes when needed.

Add lexeme genders for definite articles used with terms such as capital city, mayor, etc. etc.

Add lexeme genders for indefinite articles used with terms such as city, town, village, all professions, all building types, river, sea, lake, etc. etc.

Grammar Review

• Review existing lemmas for correctness.
• Collect and organize language fragments. See Language fragments on Wikifunctions

Grammar functions

General advice: set the interface language of Wikifunctions (and Abstract Wikipedia) to English. Create functions descriptions and labels in Englis first, then add translations for your language.

For each language fragment these folllowing process could be completed. Ideally, this work is performed by the language community, although contributors with Wikifunctions experience may also assist.

Details are given for the fragemnts "A is a B / Paris is a city" and "A is the B of C / Paris is the capital city of France". For other functions other confogurations and other language functions should be used.

1. Verify Existing Language Support

• Check which configurations already exist for your language in the Catalogue/Natural language operations
• Review the current output of the relevant functions for your language.

2. Determine grammar complexity for this fragment

2A. if simple rule (only one word variant)

• Add tests to this function

• Fully document the grammatical rules. Describe all exceptions in detail.
• Request function at f:Wikifunctions:Community portal

3. Testing

• Test the function with a wide variety if axample s, such as cities, people, buildings, rivers, seas, etc. etc.
• Submit a Request for connection for the new implementation

4. Wikidata labels

• Add missing Wikidata labels where necessary.

5. Lexemes

• Add missing lexemes where necessary.
  • Add lexeme genders for concepts that require indefinite articles, such as city, town, village, all professions, all building types, river, sea, lake, etc. etc.
  • Add lexeme genders for concepts that require definite articles, such as capital city, mayor, etc. etc.

6. Deployment

• Add the new function to the Config

• Verify the updated output. Results may be cached, so test with multiple inputs to confirm that the new function is working correctly.

• Verify results on Abstract Wikipedia as well. Cached output may also appear there. Use article searches to confirm the generated text.

• Repeat this process for all other fragments.

Activate at the target Wikipedia

In the future, Wikipedia communities will be able to integrate content generated through Abstract Wikipedia into their local Wikipedia, if they like.

To prepare for this:

• Obtain community consensus on the target Wikipedia to enable the feature, first as a pilot project.
• Once enabled, allow editors to opt in on an article-by-article basis.
